Description
European Rail Freight Days
Brussels, 27-28 November 2014
Borschette Centre Room 0A, Rue Froissart 36, 1040 Brussels
Rail transport is the key to achieve a sustainable European transport system, but the European rail freight is not as efficient as it could be. Shippers expect borderless transport solutions; rail is still hampered in meeting this demand by plenty of technical and regulatory barriers within Europe, such as lengthy authorisation procedures for rolling stock or insufficient cross-border cooperation in traffic management.
The Commission wants to develop a new agenda for rail freight, based on feedback of the rail freight community and the experience of the Rail Freight Corridors.
The Rail Freight Corridors have to attract customers through continuous development in terms of standard, quality, interoperability and capacity, paving the way for improved quality of rail freight services across Europe, addressing customer needs. A long-term strategic approach has to be combined with pragmatic solutions which can be implemented quickly, e.g. by harmonising operational rules and by cooperating to form a network.
Innovation will result necessary to contribute to make European rail freight more competitive and Shift2Rail will play a key role in providing valuable innovative solutions for rail freight.
The revitalisation of rail freight also requires measures for wagonload which is the market segment of rail freight facing the strongest challenges.
To discuss these issues, the Commission is organising together with CER and UNIFE on 27 and 28 November 2014 the European Rail Freight Days Conference in Brussels.
The participation is free of charge and you are kindly requested to register by 7 November at the latest. The confirmation of your registration will be sent after this date. In case of over-subscription, the participation could be limited.
