Description
Seminar on
Occurrence reporting, can maritime transport learn from aviation?
Promoting the development of a "just culture" principle
Brussels, 12 February 2015
The seminar was well attended with approximately 50 maritime and aviation safety experts from a wide range of organisations (national accident investigation bodies, safety organisations, trade and professional associations (Intertanko, Interferry, CLIA, ECSA, ETF, CESMA, EMPA) as well as Commission representatives from the aviation and rail sectors.
Taking some inspiration from the aviation sector, the aim of the seminar was to discuss the possibility of spreading more widely a "Just Culture" in the shipping sector in order to reduce any perceived barriers that discourage professionals and other persons concerned from voluntarily reporting safety concerns and to see how improvements can be made to the overall safety of the maritime industry.
