Description
Towards EU-wide Multimodal Travel Information, Planning and Ticketing Services
15 November 2013
Brussels, Charlemagne building, Sicco Mansholt room
On 15 November 2013 the European Commission organises day-long discussions about how to enable the emergence of EU-wide deployment of Multimodal Travel, Information, Planning and Ticketing Services, which will be composed of two parts:
- In the morning session we would like to invite you to the public hearing following the public consultation on access to multimodal travel and traffic data in the European Union (9.00 – 12.30);
- In the afternoon session, the 2nd Meeting of Stakeholders in the scope of The Preparatory Action "To develop and validate a European passenger transport information and booking interface across transport modes" will be held (14.00-18.00).
The emergence of truly EU-wide and multimodal travel information and planning services, let alone services integrating ticketing solutions, is still impeded by a number of factors. One of the conclusions of previous activities such as the public online consultation on "Enablers for European multimodal travel planning and information services" and of the follow up workshop was that the access to data from different travel modes and mobility services is still limited. This problem is linked to limited availability of different types of data, and their presentation in different, often incompatible formats, under different (re-)use regimes.
For that reason, the European Commission works on an "Initiative on access to multimodal traffic and travel data"; in its context an Impact Assessment exercise is on-going. Within the scope of the Impact Assessment, a public consultation on "Access to multimodal traffic and travel data in the European Union" was launched on 31 July 2013 and lasted for 12 weeks, until 25 October 2013.
The public hearing on 15 November 2013 will give all interested stakeholders the opportunity to learn the initial conclusions of the public consultation and exchange with different panellists on further issues related to the topic of access to multimodal travel and traffic data in the European Union.
If you are interested in participating in the public hearing (morning session), please register by sending an e-mail to the mailbox: MOVE-ITS-ACCESS-DATAec [dot] europa [dot] eu (MOVE-ITS-ACCESS-DATA[at]ec[dot]europa[dot]eu) Due to limited capacity of the room, please consider registering one person per organisation only. Your registration will be subject to confirmation from the European Commission.
If you are interested in participating in the 2nd Meeting of Stakeholders in the scope of The Preparatory Action "To develop and validate a European passenger transport information and booking interface across transport modes" (afternoon session), please register by sending an e-mail to the mailbox: MOVE-TICKETINGec [dot] europa [dot] eu (MOVE-TICKETING[at]ec[dot]europa[dot]eu)
