Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, will host an Implementation Dialogue on 17 July in Brussels focused on ramping up the production of renewable and low-carbon fuels for the maritime and aviation sectors in the EU.
The Political Guidelines of the European Commission 2024–2029 highlight the importance of promoting clean energy technologies and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. The transport sector plays a leading role in these efforts. Renewable and low-carbon fuels are especially important for decarbonising aviation and waterborne transport. To support this, the EU has adopted two key regulations aimed at reducing emissions in these sectors by 2050: ReFuelEU Aviation and FuelEU Maritime.
This dialogue will review the current state of implementation of these regulations and contribute to the Sustainable Transport Investment Plan, which is set to be adopted later this year.
Implementation Dialogues are part of the EU’s broader strategy to engage with companies and stakeholders to support compliance with EU law. President von der Leyen has tasked all Commissioners with holding two Implementation Dialogues per year to ensure that implementation reflects real-world conditions. This event marks the second such dialogue organised by Commissioner Tzitzikostas.
