The Study on Social aspects within the maritime transport sector, published by the Commission in July 2020, made recommendations relating to the need for change across the seafaring profession. Ongoing technological development and green transformation of shipping are also driving change.
It is important that representatives from Member States and the shipping sector come together to discuss challenges and solutions to future-proofing education for seafarers, and improving living and working conditions at sea, to make seafaring jobs more attractive to European youth.
