Aviation: New Annual Monitoring Report 2020 assessing the performance of air navigation service providers released

The 2020 PRB Annual Monitoring Report, prepared by the Performance Review Body, offers an in-depth assessment of the performance of air navigation service providers (ANSPs) in relation to their performance targets. The newly released 2020 Report looks at the year that the COVID-19 pandemic arrived in Europe, resulting in a massive drop in air traffic.

With fewer flights to navigate, ANSPs’ performance on environmental and capacity areas was good. Performance on safety remained stable despite the new challenges posed by the pandemic. However, the new reality posed other problems for ANSPs, predominantly of a financial nature. The cost of providing air navigation services in 2020 remained, on average, at almost pre-pandemic levels. Air navigation charges will also remain high during the 3rd reference period (2020-2024) and beyond because airspace users, and ultimately passengers, will have to cover the revenue gaps incurred by ANSPs in 2020 and 2021.
