Commissioner Vălean to sign road transport agreements with Ukraine and Moldova at ConnectingEurope Days 2022

Transport Commissioner Adina Vălean is participating in the three-day ConnectingEurope Days starting today in Lyon. ConnectingEurope Days is the EU’s flagship mobility conference bringing together politicians, industry and civil society representatives, and the European institutions to discuss how to strengthen and modernise Europe’s transport network while reducing emissions and strengthening ties with its neighbouring countries. This will include discussions on better connecting Ukraine to European transport infrastructure and thus helping its export of agricultural goods. Commissioner Vălean, French Minister Delegate in charge of Territorial Communities Béchu on behalf of the Presidency of the Council of the EU, will sign two road transport agreements with Minister Kubrakov and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova Spînu to help secure supply chains between the EU and these two countries by increasing the number of transport rights for road haulage.

Commissioner Vălean said: "Lyon is a fitting host to our ConnectingEurope Days. At the cross-roads of two European transport corridors, this city is a model multi-modal transport hub serving citizens and businesses efficiently and sustainably. The Connecting Europe Days are an opportunity to showcase state-of-the art innovations across our modes of transport, real-life demonstration of alternative fuels use in transport, and automated mobility solutions. Over the coming three days, we will focus, together with EU Member States, our neighbours in the Western Balkans as well as Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia, stakeholders, and young Europeans, the best options for modernising our transport and logistics systems while strengthening our cross-border connections."

The Commissioner will hold a keynote speech on Wednesday, officially opening the event. During her stay she will also visit Lyon Airport, participate in a high-level debate on what it takes for the aviation sector to achieve its sustainability goals and hold a dialogue with young people,  part of the European Year of Youth, reflecting on the evolution of younger generation’s mobility and travel needs as well as on the cost of mobility.

The Connecting Europe Days are organised in cooperation with the French Presidency of the Council.
