EU transport infrastructure: EUR 790 million available for military mobility

The European Commission is today launching a call for proposals under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) that makes available EUR 790 million for projects that address both civilian and defence needs along the trans-European transport network (TEN-T). With this call, the EU is speeding up investments in military mobility and supports infrastructure projects that help the transport of troops and equipment along its key transport corridors.

Commissioner for Transport, Adina Vălean, said: "We are making available EUR 790 million for projects that will improve the dual use of our transport system. Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine has confirmed that we need to continue improving the capacity of transport infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, and rail tracks, allowing our armed forces and their equipment to move around the EU with ease."

This call is also in line with the Action Plan on Military Mobility 2.0. The Plan seeks to facilitate the movements of armed forces in Europe to respond better, more rapidly and at sufficient scale to crises erupting at the EU’s external borders and beyond.
