Around 3,000 towns and cities across Europe are participating in this year's European Mobility Week, which starts tomorrow and ends on 22 September. It has never been as important as it is today for everyone to embrace active mobility, public transport, and other clean, intelligent, transport solutions. Making these choices reduces energy usage and emissions, saves money, and promotes a healthy lifestyle.
European Commissioner for Transport Adina Vălean said: "Every city has its specificities, and the best solutions are the ones that best serve the city's inhabitants. This year again, around 3,000 cities and towns from more than 40 countries take part in European Mobility Week, demonstrating their commitment to better infrastructure and transport services for better connecting their citizens, within the cities themselves, but also with their regions, and the rest of Europe. I would in particular like to welcome the Ukrainian towns and cities joining us this year, even as their country is defending itself against Russia’s war of aggression."
Activities around Europe this week include the car-free day, bicycle festivals, electric vehicle exhibitions and workshops. This year's event also coincides with the Urban Mobility Days conference of 20–22 September in Brno, organised in cooperation with the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union. In addition, the ROADPOL Safety Days also take place at the same time, with the goal of reducing the number of road fatalities on European roads.
