Informal Council meeting on transport infrastructure

The European Ministers for Transport will hold an informal meeting from 16 -17 September 2014 in Milan to discuss the planning and funding of the transport infrastructure in Europe.

In order to close the gaps between Member States' transport networks, remove bottlenecks and overcome technical barriers, the highest possible level of coordination has to be assured within the nine transport corridors within the Trans-European Transport Corridors (TEN-T).

The meeting will be chaired by the Italian Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Maurizio Lupi, and the Commission represented by Vice-President Siim Kallas, Commissioner for Transport and Mobility. Henning Christophersen, former Vice-President of the European Commission, as well as the European Coordinators in charge of Scandinavian and Mediterranean Corridors: Pat Cox, Laurens Jan Brinkhorst and Ana Palacio will also deliver keynotes.

The second day will focus on financing investment, including how to attract additional private funds, and will hear presentations by Dario Scannapieco, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank and the European Coordinators Kurt Bodewig and Carlo Secchi.
