Trans-European transport network (TEN-T): European Commission welcomes provisional agreement simplifying administrative procedures

The European Commission welcomes the provisional agreement reached by Parliament and Council yesterday on measures speeding up the completion of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T).

Commissioner for Transport Adina Vălean said: "The completion of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) is essential for the functioning of the single market, the digitalisation of transport and the transition to a cleaner mobility. The new rules will make administrative procedures for infrastructure more efficient and transparent and benefit the transport sector in its recovery."

The new measures will simplify the rules and procedures for authorities and project promoters. They will ease the granting of permits, public procurement and other administrative procedures for infrastructure projects, and they will improve the cooperation between Member States on cross-border projects, also to achieve other EU objectives such as environmental protection.

The Commission presented its original proposal in May 2018 as part of Mobility Package III. The provisional agreement must now be approved by the Parliament and the Council before it enters into force.
