The Commission conducts inspections of airports and the appropriate authorities of the EU Member States who are responsible for the coordination and monitoring of the implementation of the EU's civil aviation security rules.
Commission inspections serve to ensure that Union standards are fully implemented by Member States. Shortcomings must be remedied by the appropriate authority.
The Commission reports regularly on the implementation of the relevant EU legislation and its impact on improving aviation security, as provided for by a specific provision in Regulation (EC) 300/2008 on annual reporting.
