Oman, a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), is an important emerging business, tourism and aviation hub in the Gulf region, with rapidly growing demand for air links to the EU.
The European Commission requested the Council to authorise the negotiation an EU-level aviation agreement with Oman as part of the ambitious external aviation policy put forward with the 2015 Aviation Strategy for Europe.
Oman also participates in the EU-GCC aviation dialogue which was launched in 2013.
