The Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme 2021-2027 is a European Union initiative aimed at fostering transnational cooperation among countries in the Baltic Sea region. Objective(s) and scope

Interreg Baltic Sea Region (the Programme) is a source of EU funding for public and private actors who want to shape the Baltic Sea region to become more innovative, water-smart and climate-neutral.

The Programme is launching the third call for core projects. The call is open exclusively for applications tackling challenges under Priority 1 and Priority 3. 

Priority 1 Innovative societies – Under the thematic focus of Priority 1, the Programme particularly invites applicants who wish to (1) respond to societal challenges or (2) harness digitalisation potential.

Priority 2 Climate-neutral societies – The Programme exclusively considers core project applications addressing the topic of climate change, promoting applications that address the following challenges:

  • More systematic approach to planning processes in key sectors
  • Mainstreaming climate-conscious perspective through participatory and inclusive approaches
  • Improving the generation, distribution, utilisation and storage of energy
  • Promoting circular practices as a means to address climate change

The Managing Authority/Joint Secretariat (MA/JS) is the main contact point. The MA/JS’s main office in Rostock (Germany) is operated by Investitionsbank Schleswig-Holstein (IB.SH).

Programme co-financing allocated to this call:

  • From ERDF, EUR 13.7 million to Priority 1 and EUR 27.0 million to Priority 2
  • From Norwegian funds, EUR 1.1 million in total 

Partners from EU Member States are entitled to receive up to 80% co-financing from ERDF. Norwegian partners will receive up to 50% co-financing from Norwegian funding. Project partners have to provide their own contribution to receive Programme funding.

Eight EU Member States (Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Sweden), and one non-Member State (Norway)

Eligibility criteria (if available)

Eligibility criteria include the following:

  • To have at least three partners from three programme area countries ready to work together.
  • Project idea must fit into one of these programme objectives:
    • Resilient economies and communities
    • Responsive public services
    • Circular Economy
    • Energy transition
    • Smart green mobility
  • Be considered a core project (duration up to 36 months), where you will prepare, pilot and transfer practical and durable solutions.
  • Be able to secure your own financial contribution and pre-finance project activities.
  • Be one of the following:
    • Local, regional or national public authority
    • Infrastructure and public service provider; sectoral agency
    • Small and medium enterprise; large enterprise; business support organisation
    • Education/training centre and school; higher education and research institution
    • Non-governmental organisation; international governmental organisation
    • European Economic Interest Grouping
    • European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation
    • Hospital and medical centre
    • Interest group
  • One of the partners must be ready to take the role of a lead partner.

From 17 January 2024 until 21 June 2024. The project application and all further documents and forms must be completed and submitted via BAMOS+ by the deadline of 21 June 2024 16:00 CEST.
