Sub-group on governance and standards for communication exchange in the electromobility ecosystem (RegEx E03321/6)

At its plenary session of 26 November 2020, on proposal of DG MOVE, the STF decided to set up the sub-group on governance and standards for communication exchange in the electromobility ecosystem (the “STF Sub-group on Governance & Standards”).

The sub-group is tasked to assist the Commission and recommend minimum principles and guide the design and implementation of a EU governance and architecture framework for communication between the electric vehicle and the recharging infrastructure, ensuring interoperability in the whole ecosystem. It should moreover serve as the main EU fora for high-level discussion and coordination between industry stakeholders, associations, and standardisation organisations. In particular, the sub-group will help identify and cover existing standardisation gaps in pursue of harmonisation and convergence of electromobility communication standards and protocols. This includes support with implementation of requirements as part of the new Regulation on Alternative Fuels Infrastructure (AFIR), and the standardisation mandate (M-581).

Following a call for applications, the Director-General for Mobility and Transport appointed on 25 February 2021 twenty-two members and one observer to this sub-group. This sub-group was set-up with a 3-year mandate (until end 2023). By Decision of the Director-General for Mobility and Transport of 18 January 2024, the mandate of the members of the sub-group was extended for 4 years, starting on 1 March 2024.

The sub-group in line with its mission, has delivered on a number of topics, and continuous to do so according to its current working programme and vision for 2024 and 2025. The sub-group agreed on a future working vision to be jointly developed with the STF Sub-group on Data as of September 2023 bringing together experts from both sub-groups. Below, a summary of the present and future deliverables for the sub-group.
