Urban Logistics is also one of the focus topics in the Commission's Urban Mobility Package.
Indeed, Urban Logistics are essential for cities to function successfully and make up a significant share of urban traffic. However, logistics are often neglected in urban planning.
Captive fleets such as mail delivery vehicles and garbage trucks are well-suited for the early introduciton of new types of vehicles and alternative fuels. Member States and local authorities need to provide a fremaewok (delivery spaces, access regulations, enforcement etc.) to ensure that there is a positive business case for the private operators to invest in new tehcnologies and solutions.
The Commission will improve the dissemination of best practice, produce additional guidance documents and facilitate the procurement of clean vehicles through its Clean Vehicle Portal.
