Responsibilities

With a background in Systems Engineering, Policy Analysis and Management from Delft University of Technology, Marleen initially focused on hyperloop research before dedicating her career to the rail sector. She believes that climate-neutral transport can only be achieved by shifting more freight and passengers onto rail and that digitalisation is key to unlocking this transition.

She strives to connect people, policy and technology for a rail system that is safer and ready for the future. In 2022, she was appointed as the Rail Ambassador during the European Year of Youth. Since 2023, she also serves on the board of Rail Cargo Information Netherlands, where she advocates for the development of rail freight. Last but not least, she is on the supervisory board of the Young Climate Movement.

Marleen is honoured with International Railway Journal’s Young Rail Leader Award in recognition of her work to advance safe, efficient and capacity-enhancing digital solutions across borders and for building international relationships. She is also the recipient of the IRSE Innovator Grand Prize for her excellent work on pioneering the future of railways.
