Description
Conference
Better accessibility for rail passengers
Charlemagne Building, Brussels
Tuesday 26 April 2016, 9:00 - 13:00
Objective
The objective of this high-level event is to present the state-of-play regarding accessibility of the rail transport, share experiences and good practice as well as to discuss how the accessibility of rail transport could be improved further.
On 25 April 2016 a workshop will take place in order to support the Member States in developing their National Implementation Plans, with a view to progressively eliminate all identified barriers to accessibility. For more details on the workshop please write to MOVE-RAIL-PRMec [dot] europa [dot] eu (MOVE-RAIL-PRM[at]ec[dot]europa[dot]eu).
Who is expected to participate?
The conference will bring together high-level representatives from the European institutions and representatives of public and private stakeholders from the rail community.
Mr Henrik Hololei, Director General, Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) will open the conference, together with representatives of the Dutch Presidency of the Council and the European Parliament.
The panel discussion following the opening will involve representatives of National Authorities, of passengers and other rail stakeholders. Moreover, representatives of the European Commission will bring into the discussion relevant viewpoints from the perspective of the recent proposal for a European Accessibility Act, which will help people with disabilities to participate fully in society.
The conclusions of the conference will be drawn by Mr Olivier Onidi, Director "European mobility network" of DG MOVE.
The participation is open to all members of the rail community interested in exchanging views on various actions and initiatives aiming at further improving the accessibility for rail passengers.

You can already send us your questions to the high-level speakers and the panellists on twitter using the hashtag #accessrail . You can follow general updates from DG MOVE via @Transport_EU .
