Following the support of aviation security experts from the European Member States the European Commission formally adopted new measures to further improve aviation security in the European Union today. These measures include a revision of background checks for aviation personnel. Concretely, this will contribute to the prevention of the so-called "insider threats" – a priority point in the global agenda on aviation security of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and of the European Union.
Further measures include the introduction of performance and detection standards of new technological solutions as well as the screening of liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) and hold baggage.
Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/103 enters into force on 1 February 2019.
