EU-US Transportation Research Symposium

The EU-US Transportation Research Symposium is an annual event co-organised by the European Commission (Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport and Directorate-General Research and Innovation) and the U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DoT) which brings together European and US experts to advance the transatlantic collaboration in transport research and innovation. The symposium aims to build a shared transatlantic understanding of key research and innovation (R&I) issues in transport, to promote the exchange of best practices, and to accelerate the deployment of innovative transport solutions. To do so, the symposium gathers research communities, stakeholders and policymakers who jointly identify transport research and innovation needs, as well as discuss policies, programmes, and innovative approaches to deliver sustainable, accessible and affordable mobility for all.

Seven EU-US symposia have been organised between 2013 and 2024:

  1. City Logistics Research: A Trans-Atlantic Perspective (2013)
  2. Transportation Research Implementation: Application of Research Outcomes (2014)
  3. Towards Road Transport Automation: Opportunities in Public-Private Collaboration (2015)
  4. Transportation Resilience: Adaptation to Climate Change (2016)
  5. Decarbonizing Transportation for a Sustainable Future: Mitigating Impacts of the Changing Climate (2017)
  6. Socio-Economic Impacts of Automated Vehicles (2018)
  7. Global Pathways to Net-Zero: Behavioral, Social and Technological Research and Innovation (R&I) Strategies for Transportation Decarbonization (2024)
