Cross Company Mentoring Program
by Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group
The Cross Company Mentoring program is part of the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group's strategy to enhance the inclusion of those typically exposed to unconscious bias, such as women, and to support the leadership development of female colleagues who are part of the pool of talents.
Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane has a strong male predominance at all levels. The Group wants to have a more “diverse” management, also to transmit know-how and best practices throughout the Company. The main objective of the project is to break the glass ceiling that prevents women to become leaders, through a mentoring program changing the company’s culture.
The program currently involves 22 participants. It consists in a one-to-one mentoring relationship of six months between female middle managers (mentees) and female/male senior managers (mentors). The mentoring aims at developing the managerial potential of the mentees, at supporting them in taking direct responsibility for their own professional development and at improving mentors’ motivation. The mentoring also showcases the Company’s dedication to Diversity & Inclusion.
The plan is to involve a wider group of women mentees (at all levels of the Company) and of female/male mentors in the coming years. With the program, Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane wants to create a pool of talents within the group. It will help HR professionals to identify talents and to have a better knowledge of the development needs of mentees and of their readiness to fulfil more challenging roles. By helping women to pursue new professional challenges, Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane also aims at improving the retention of female talent and their employability within the Company.
