Description
It will be an excellent opportunity for key maritime transport stakeholders, Member States, and the Commission to come together to shape the future of maritime safety and education in an evolving sector.
The event will take place on 17 January 2024 in Brussels and will be held exclusively in person, in Brussels.
Participants:
- Maritime transport stakeholders with an interest in future-proofing seafarers’ education, and the impact of living and working conditions on maritime safety;
- Representatives of Member States’ maritime administration in coordination with the employment and social affairs sector.
The event will be held in English.
It is organised by the European Commission, Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport in cooperation with other relevant Commission services, EMSA and social partners.
The study on social aspects within the maritime transport sector, published by the Commission in July 2020, made recommendations relating to the need for change across the seafaring profession. Additionally, ongoing technological development and the green transformation of shipping are driving a shift in the maritime sector.
It is therefore important that representatives from Member States and the shipping sector come together to discuss challenges and solutions to future-proofing education for seafarers, and improving living and working conditions at sea, to make seafaring jobs more attractive to European youth.
The workshop will be divided into two main sessions. Each session will be structured around working groups relating to specific topics based on the attached agenda. Group discussions will be held in the World Cafe format with conclusion presented by group rapporteurs during the panel concluding each session.
