Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation: Q&A on operating recharging infrastructure

The Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), comes into force on 13 April 2024, supporting the transition towards more sustainable transport by setting obligatory targets for the rollout of recharging and refuelling transport infrastructure. Uniform application of AFIR across the Union is a step towards seamless zero-emission passenger and freight road transport, towards dismantling trade barriers, and towards creating economies of scale for manufacturers and operators of alternative fuels infrastructure.

A new Commission document answers common questions on the operation of recharging infrastructure (Article 5 of AFIR). It covers definitions of terms used within the Regulation, among other topics. Similar documents will be published at a later date for other Regulation articles.
