Inland Water Transport Digitalisation Vision

This Vision has been prepared and adopted by the IWT stakeholders through the Naiades and DINA expert group. This paper only expresses the view of the members of DINA Expert Group and the members of the NAIADES Expert Group.

Amendment of Directive 2005/44/EC on harmonised river information services (RIS) - ongoing

On 24 January 2024 the European Commission adopted Proposal for a Directive of The European Parliament and of the Council amending Directive 2005/44/EC on harmonised river information services (RIS) on inland waterways in the Community. The aim of this proposal is to improve the traffic management and safety on EU rivers but also improve the integration of inland waterway transport into the overall logistic chain and the EU climate ambition. 

The Council finalised its discussions on the proposal in the Shipping Working Party on 26 February 2024. A compromise text (the General Approach) was adopted by the Council on 18 June 2024.
