The Interreg Atlantic Area 2021-2027 programme promotes transnational cooperation among countries bordering the Atlantic Ocean. It aims to enhance innovation, protect the environment, and improve regional competitiveness. The programme supports projects that address shared challenges such as climate change, sustainable resource management, and economic diversification, fostering a cohesive and sustainable Atlantic region.
Objective(s) and scope
The Interreg Atlantic Area 2021-2027 supports transnational cooperation in the Atlantic regions of four countries: Portugal, Spain, France and Ireland. In this new programme, we renew the commitment with the Atlantic regions in the support of innovative initiatives that contribute to the growth of this area, solving common challenges across border through the implementation of joint actions, exchange of good practices and contribution to new or current policies.
The objectives of the programme are as follows:
- Blue innovation and competitiveness (Smarter Europe)
- Blue and green environment (Greener Europe)
- Blue sustainable tourism and culture (Social Europe)
- A better governance for cooperation (Interreg objective)

Financing value
Total budget for 2021-2027: EUR 113 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) with the co-financing rate for projects approved being up to 75% of the total investment.
For the call currently open, exclusively for priority 4 (Interreg objective), the budget is of EUR 3.75 million. For more information on future calls, please check our website.
Eligibility criteria (if available)
For the current open Call (to be closed by July 26, 2024):
- The project involves at least two full partners by each: France, Ireland, Portugal, and Spain.
- Profit making private partners will not be allowed to participate in this call.
- Partners from outside the designated areas cannot be lead partners.
For thematic Calls, SME are eligible and other eligibility criteria may be defined by the Programme Authorities. More information in the website.
